Steep Hill Labs seeks a hard-working and highly motivated Senior Software Developer with strong communication and analytical skills to work with a fun and dynamic team at Steep Hill. The Senior Software Developer will be contribute to a dynamic team in delivering a new generation of cannabis analytical laboratory software solutions designed to meet the needs of our global business, built using the most modern technologies and development methodologies, providing an unparalleled level of agility, ease-of-use, and integration capability. The ability to work across a variety of tasks, in a startup environment, is an essential attribute for the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s in computer engineering, computer science or related field. The ideal candidate will also have experience with the overall development life cycle, process, communication, collaboration and people management. The Senior Software Developer is integral to managing the overall software development life cycle, process, communication, collaboration and people management. The Senior Software Developer will be expected to work across a variety of tasks with attention to detail, organization, and professionalism.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Director or Software Development to manage the software development life cycle, process, communication, collaboration and people management
  • Assist in the development of short, medium, and long-term plans to achieve strategic objectives
  • Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture
  • Apply extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications
  • Interact across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams
  • Conceptualize and deliver on vision
  • Excel working with geographically distributed teams
  • Ensure projects are successfully completed based on project requirements
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Candidate must be comfortable working with cannabis
  • Learn and execute established Steep Hill and state regulatory SOPs
  • Ability to provide support and integrate seamlessly with other key departments
  • Personal drive and commitment to ongoing improvement of the Customer Experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must be at least 21 years old
  • Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Candidate must meet all state requirements for employment in the cannabis industry
  • BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area
  • 5 years of software engineering or related experience
  • Must have experience with AWS – particularly serverless development approach
  • Must be proficient in SQL
  • Must know either .NET or Python – both is obviously preferred
  • Familiarity with JavaScript, Node, and Angular is a plus as there will be some front-end work
  • Familiarity with a LIMS system is not necessary, but a huge plus
  • 3 years of experience in engineering management and leadership
  • Experience in software design and coding in a modern programming language
  • Experience developing distributed systems and understanding of scale, reliability and performance
  • Broad engineering competence and in-depth technical knowledge of embedded application software development, as well as demonstrated experience successfully planning, organizing and conducting software development projects in a dynamic environment
  • Curiosity and interest in the science of cannabis a plus
  • Creative, analytical problem-solver who can cooperatively work effectively within small teams
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and GSuite (primarily Google Sheets & Google Docs)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and to prioritize and manage assignments
  • Comfortable making mathematical calculations and being accountable
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work in a collaborative environment
  • Personal integrity, disciplined work ethic, organization skills, and motivation to work with a sense of urgency
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and after-hours
