Food is Free Tacoma

Food is Free Tacoma proudly features new interactive map to make locating tables easy

Tacoma and surrounding areas have become familiar with the term “Food is Free” this year as a global project led locally by David Thompson, Tacoma’s own Urban Farmer.

What began as a simple idea of growing excess produce in parking strips or other spaces on volunteer’s property has now exploded into more than 12 gardens with tables that set out freshly picked, all organic fruit, vegetables and gleaned apples, pears, plums and more.

Show your support for the Food is Free Tacoma project through your garden fashion pride

One of the first questions we get from passersby while out working in the garden or sporting some of our Food is Free Tacoma Fashion is “Where are all the other tables”? A rather fabulous member, Karla Joanne Rixon came up with a solution today by creating this interactive Google Map of all the Food is Free Project Gardens in and around the Tacoma area.

The Food is Free Community works together in so many capacities, from bartering materials, volunteering time and property to creating digital tools such as this remarkable map.

Thank you, Karla, as the Pink Boots wearing gardener on the S L Street Raised Bed Garden, I tilt my bucket hat to you and THANK YOU in the biggest way for the work and support!

This is the easiest way to show support for this program – locate the closest table to you and drop off any extras your garden provides. It all adds up and what starts as small ripples become huge waves in the effort to feed our community.
