How do you purchase your cannabis? From a local grower? At a co-op? Farmer’s Market? Dispensary? Behind the McDonald’s by the freeway in Midvale (here’s looking at you, Utah)?
How about from a vending machine? This would be a first for us so we decided to investigate further, looking into Greenbox Robotics, who claim to have created the first fully automated cannabis kiosk.
From their website: “The moment we step out the door, our daily lives are simplified by the wonders of modern day automation. Whether it’s pre-ordering your Starbucks on your phone, printing your plane ticket at an airport kiosk, or simply ordering your groceries online, automation is the grease that keeps this high-paced world spinning. So why should buying your cannabis and CBD be any different? Greenbox Robotics has harnessed the most sophisticated automation technology to make your buying and selling experience fast, easy, and way ahead of its time”.
They go on to state: “By utilizing both front end and back end development, the Machine takes the consumer through a seamless user experience. From the moment they walk by the Greenbox immediately engages with a potential customer. From there your consumer can browse through your catalog of products by filtering and searching ensuring that they always find what they need. The Greenbox software then immediately communicates with the kiosk directing our robot arm technology to deliver the product safely to its new owner”.
They have also hopped on the CBD bandwagon by producing a machine designated for the CBD market. The Marina Box “has all the features of the greenbox and is custom built to house CBD-only products. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid, meaning it is a derivative of cannabis. CBD offers therapeutic benefits including anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and analgesic properties, and does not have the psychogenic effects of THC. Our goal is to educate customers on the benefits of CBD and guide them to the perfect product for their needs. CBD products come in many forms ranging from oils and lotions to edibles and CBD infused beverages, all of which may be found in your local Marinabox. As CBD is legal in all 50 states and regulated much differently than THC, our marinabox can live almost anywhere”.
We can see a potential for abuse with these machines, akin to ATM’s. Will criminals be breaking into them or try towing them away? Security surely is a priority for cannabis consumers. We always want to feel safe and secure when making purchases and while we can’t speak for anyone else, trying this once or twice just for the experience might be worth it and it. They may be a great enhancement for the cannabis industry, however, we would certainly would miss the interaction we get when we purchase our cannabis products from local growers and certainly would never rely on a machine to replace those precious interactions.
What do YOU make of buying your marijuana from a vending machine? Yea or Nay?
